Pastor Todd 

Lead Pastor

Pastor Todd was born in Columbus, Ohio. He lived there until, at the age of five, his father was transferred to Orange County, California. He was raised in a loving and supportive Christian home. He has also lived in Kansas and Texas, although he loves San Diego as much as anywhere else.

At the age of four, Todd placed his faith in Jesus Christ during a morning Sunday School class. He was baptized at age eight. During the summer between his ninth and tenth grade years, he accepted God’s call to full time ministry. He continued his pursuit through Whittier Christian High School and Biola University, and received his masters at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He served for 11 years in full time youth ministry. His past 15 years have been as a Senior Pastor. Todd came to Bethel in 2008, where he currently serves as the Senior Pastor.

Todd is married to Dina, and they have four children. Todd is an avid reader, enjoys woodworking and computers. He enjoys athletic activities and loves to geek out on his favorite comic book and sci-fi characters.

Pastor Tommy

Youth Pastor

Tommy has served as a director and pastor of youth ministry for nearly all of his adult life. He even grew up in a family of youth workers in Colorado. He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute Chicago and Westminster Seminary California. He has served in Non-denominational, Baptist, and Presbyterian churches leading youth and music ministries. Tommy and his family have lived in Colorado, Arizona, Missouri, Virginia, Georgia, and of course, California. 

Tommy is the thankful father of 5 and husband for more than 15 years. His passion as a youth pastor is to take difficult but important truth and communicate it with clarity, demonstrating its powerful relevance. The gospel and its savior are the center and heart of everything Tommy teaches. 

He also works as a driving instructor for Alliance Defensive Driving School. He enjoys time with his family, reading, visiting SoCal amusement parks, playing guitar, downhill snow-skiing, biking, and thought-provoking movies.

Pastor Mike

​​​​​​​Assistant Pastor of Discipleship

Mike has served in many roles at bethel since becoming a member in 2001. He has taught Bible truths to all ages from preschool to senior adult. He is a graduate of San Diego State University, and Southern California Seminary. Mike and his wife Andrea have lived in the Southeastern United States, and of course California. Both of their fathers served in the military.

Mike and Andrea were married at Bethel in 2005. They met when Mike began attending Bethel after his first wife died in 2001. He has a passion for discipleing Christ followers to help them grow spiritually and live out their biblical worldview. Mike and Andrea are part of the Hands and Feet outreach ministry which provides meals and other essentials to Escondido’s homeless population.

He also is the president of the Bartimaeus Alliance of the Blind which provides Bible study resources to the blind and deaf-blind to help them grow in their faith. His interests include computers, reading, science fiction, sports, and contemporary Christian music.


Ministry Consultant

Bruce was a successful teacher and High School coach in four varsity sports for five years. He then had a twenty-eight-year career with a major publishing company as a Vice President of Sales and Product Development. 

Built a small startup corporation for two nationally known Christian Psychologists. He then concluded his full-time career as V. P. for I.A. at California Baptist University where he was a member of the University Executive Council.  He concluded a successful 10-year career with CBU in June of 2008 and was award the distinguished title of California Baptist University Vice President Emeritus.

In retirement, Mr. Hitchcock sits on the boards of: Links International Southwest, Orange County Southern Baptist Association Foundation, and Haven Today Ministries.

In addition Mr. Hitchcock serves California Southern Baptists by working with the Inland Empire Southern Baptist Association and The California Baptist Foundation.

Bruce, who is an ordained Southern Baptist Pastor, speaks, on a regular basis, in pulpits throughout Southern California.  He has served in two Intentional Interim pastorates since his retirement from CBU.

He and his wife Carol live in Temecula, Ca. and have been married for 51 years.  They have two children.  Todd is senior pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Escondido, CA and Dawn who lives in a group home in Corona and is developmentally delayed.  They also have four grandchildren.

Jim & Patty

Custodian & Children's Director

Jim and Patty have been members of Bethel since their childhood and started dating in High School. They were married in 1974. They have two daughters and seven grandchildren.

Jim began working as the full-time custodian in 1987 at Bethel and considers it a great blessing to serve the Lord in this way.

Patty has always enjoyed children and realized her gift of working with them while on a mission trip in High School. She had a full-time childcare business in her home for ten years while raising their daughters and also worked in a public school for ten years teaching art and assisting as an instructional aide. During all this time she served in Bethel’s children’s ministry and was licensed as a minister.

In their free time, Jim likes watching reruns of old TV shows, and Patty loves time with the grandkids, cooking and gardening. Together, they dedicate themselves to serving God and sharing their home with others.


Church Administrator

Debbie is our church administrator and has been with Bethel since 2014. She loves serving God in her role as the administrator as well as encouraging women in God's Word and helping others in various ministries. Debbie is also Bethel’s Event Coordinator and enjoys the planning and working with outside groups to accommodate their needs. In her time off, she enjoys horses, traveling, and spending quality time with her husband and grand kids.
